Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Educators

Description: Mindfulness-based stress reduction is a method of practicing mindfulness to cultivate awareness and reduce stress. By understanding how to reduce stress, educators will be healthier, both emotionally and physically. This course will be an overview in mindfulness meditation practice with guided instruction. Students are directly affected by the adults who work with them. Therefore, happier educators result in more receptive students.
Expected Outcome for Teachers: Improved self-awareness, health enhancement, and wellness, greater self-regulation, improved sense of balance, and less sleep disturbances.
Expected Outcome for Students: More balanced teachers will have greater success in implementing lessons; learning from teachers with renewed energy and passion.
Next Generation Learning Standards to be addressed: Applies to all grades/subjects

Location: Howard T. Herber Library
Credit: 5 hours equals ½ in-service credit

Stipend: 1 hr. = $45.
