Understanding Students with Trauma and Resolving Conflict with Parents
Instructor: Mindy DaSilva
Description: Helping teachers better understand the impact of trauma on a student’s performance. We will also discuss strategies that may be helpful while approaching difficult conversations with parents.
Expected Outcome for Teachers: Greater sense of empathy and understanding of their students as well as confidence in resolving conflicts with parents.
Expected Outcome for Students: Students with various emotional needs will feel safe within their classroom setting and therefore better able to access their cognitive abilities.
Next Generation Learning Standards to be addressed: Empathy
Date: Thursdays February 6th, 2020, February 13th, 2020
Time: 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Location: Howard T. Herber Library
Credit: 5 hours equals ½ in-service credit
or
Stipend: 1 hr. = $45.
*NOTE: PROVIDED FUNDING IS AVAILABLE AND PENDING THE APPROVAL OF THE POLICY BOARD, A SECOND STIPEND MAY BE AWARDED BASED ON TIME-STAMPED REGISTRATIONS.
IN ORDER TO RECEIVE CREDIT, EVIDENCE OF COMPLETED WORK MUST BE PROVIDED TO THE COURSE INSTRUCTOR.
